Skate ramps are used by aggressive skaters to perform jumps and tricks in the air. The most commonly used are launch ramps and kickers. Easy to transport, they consist of a bank or slope at a straight or curved angle to perform jumps. Aggressive skate grind rails are pipes or narrow platforms used by skaters to perform grinds and slides.
If you have been skating for some time now, owning a skate ramp or a skate grind rail will help you accelerate the learning curve. Ramps for skates are similar to any other ramp you would use for skateboarding, BMX, or scooting, the only difference would be the set-up you would choose.
Normally, when you skate on obstacles you pick a line - the setting of the various ramps and skate rails that follow each other to build a track where you practice and show your skills. You can buy different, moveable ramps to learn and practice tricks where you need airtime. This will save you some time looking and going to a spot or a park, where most likely you will not be the only one in line to give the ramp a try.
